4 Days Jinbei (North of Shanxi) Datong Trip

  • 4 Days, 3 Nights

Datong is one of the 9 ancient capital cities in China, except Yungang Grottoes, Huayan Temple which we included in one day Datong trip, there are still two more worth-visiting attractions, they are Hanging Temple and Yingxian Wooden Pagoda respectively. Hanging Temple was built into the cliff which the highest point is over 50m from the ground, it fully reflects the imagination of Chinese ancient craftmen. Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is the oldest and highest block which chinese ancient craftmen spent 140 years to build it.  We include these 4 important cultural masterpiece in our recommended 4 Days Datong itinerary so that you have no any pity after visiting Datong City.

2

Datong (B/L)

Our guide would meet you at the lobby of hotel at around 09:00am, then drive you to visit Yungang Grottoes which is one of four large grottoes in China. Then drive you to visit Huayan Temple with murals and many statues inside and most of them have over 900 years history. The most famous statue is a female sculpture which casted in Liao Dynasty (907-1125) and people normally evaluated her as the Orient Venus.

Remark: We only include two attractions in one day trip as we would like to give you more flexibility to choose where you like to go in the rest of the time or just take a rest inside the hotel. There is no much more to see inside Datong city, if you’d like to explore more, we recommend Shanhua Temple for you to consider as option. As Shanhua Temple kept relative complete Tang Dynasty Style Architecture inside. If you have leisure time in the evening, you can consider going out and take a look of the Datong City Wall although it is newly built. But the night view is amazing and photogenic.

3

Datong (B/L)

Our guide would meet you at the lobby of hotel at around 08:30am and drive around 2 hours (75km) to visit Hanging Temple firstly, it called as the world's forgotten wonders as it built on the cliff with 1,400 years history. When you stand on the temple and see the Aeolian bells swing in the wind, you would appreciate the passage of years. A simple lunch would be served at the restaurant near the scenic spot, then we drive you 1 hour to visit Yingxian Wooden Pagoda which is the oldest and the highest surviving wooden pagoda in China but without using even one spike to build it. That's why we called it's architecture wonder in the world. Then we would drive you back to Datong city and it might cost around 1.5-2 hours again. Continue to stay at 4* Datong Hotel.

As a protective measure, only the first floor is now open to the public and the number of people allowed in the pagoda at any one time has been limited for the visiting of Yingxian Wooden Pagoda. It's quite a pity that we cannot see the complete interior structure of the pagoda. Therefore we should hold the chance of the visiting to The Hanging Temple where climbing and standing inside the temple is still permitted.
